Building defect investigations and surveys are needed not only when problems arise but when assurance is required that defects do not exist or that the standard of construction is such that problems are unlikely.
Stanger have extensive experience of this type of work and in addition to the normal methods of investigation (drilled dust sampling, covermeter, crack measurement, etc) provides sophisticated techniques such as Borescope and Thermography Analysis. Investigations on-site are supported by a comprehensive range of laboratory, analytical and testing facilities capable of tackling most materials problems whether of an engineering, chemical, geotechnical or metallurgical nature.

3D Imaging of Reinforcement in Concrete
Ferroscan
We have in-house expertise and experience to deal with all types of investigation or survey from simple materials sampling and analysis through engineer led defect investigation to the preparation and presentation of expert reports.
Roofing & Waterproofing
Stanger Testing Services Limited employ experienced engineers and scientists who are available to conduct testing and assessment on a full range of roofing and waterproofing materials. When required specific in-house test procedures have been designed to suit particular material requirements.
These procedures can assess material performance in simulated service or environmental conditions. If problems arise, Stanger offer a complete investigation service.
Laboratory Testing
- Chemical analysis and material identification
- UKAS accredited independent testing to International Standards
We are able to carry out surveys and investigations on a variety of structures, including reinforced concrete structures, masonry bridges and timber frame buildings.
We have extensive experience in checking structures for wall ties. We have also many years’ experience in conducting Pull-Off Testing, and also can analyse render systems.
Using our Hilti PS Ferroscan equipment we are able to locate the reinforcing steel within concrete, and can establish the depth of concrete cover to the reinforcement and the diameter of the bars.
When testing reinforced concrete we are able to extract concrete samples for chemical analysis and compressive strength of the concrete.
There are a number of in-situ testing which can be carried out, including the depth of carbonation layer within the concrete.

We have the equipment and knowledge to survey buildings for the presence of wall ties, and have checked structures throughout the country.
Pull out testing can be conducted on all kinds of fixings, and can also be carried out on render systems.
Sometimes there is a requirement to check a structures load capacity by applying a load and measuring the deflection.
We are able to survey timber frame structures for damp, rot, and wood-boring insect infestation.
We can identify between different rot types.
We will help to identify the source of the moisture.
